Best Practices

Stewart Abstract works very hard to be Best Practices compliant! What are “Best Practices?”

Beginning on August 1, 2015, American Land Title Association (known as ALTA) implemented an industry-wide Standard of Practices designed to protect the privacy and rights of consumers like you. Best Practices also contains guidelines that ensure high quality transactions for all parties involved in Real Estate transactions, including the lending institutions.

Stewart Abstract is glad to work with a variety of underwriting companies, and if you’d like to read more about how each of these companies has integrated Best Practices (and consequently, how we have implemented them), you can click on the links provided:

  • Information about customers’ transactions with us or others; and
  • Information we receive from a consumer reporting agency.

Use of Information

We request information from customers for our own legitimate business purposes and not for the benefit of any nonaffiliated party.  Therefore, we will not release customers’ information to nonaffiliated parties except: (1) as necessary for us to provide the product or service they have requested of us; or (2) as permitted by law.  We may, however, store such information indefinitely, including the period after which any customer relationship has ceased.  Such information may be used for any internal purpose, such as quality control efforts or customer analysis.

Former Customer

Even if a person is no longer our customer, our Privacy Policy will continue to apply.

Confidentiality and Security

We will use our best efforts to ensure that no unauthorized parties have access to any customer information.  We restrict access to nonpublic personal information about customers to those individuals and entities who need to know that information to provide our products and services to customers.  We will use our best efforts to ensure that customer information will be handled responsibly and in accordance with this Privacy Policy.  We currently maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations to guard nonpublic personal information.
